Florida Okinawa Kenjin-Kai

The Florida Okinawa Kenjin-Kai  dance group was first
formulated in 1995.  Since then the group has performed
throughout Northwest Florida.  Entertaining the young
and old with their colorful costumes, traditional Okinawan
dances with Taiko drums and play the shamisen (a 3
string instrument similar to the banjo.  Their busy
schedule comprises of local grade schools, special
events, and celebrations.  

Nuchibana - Okinawa Dance

The sweet and graceful dancing represents the lady going out into the fields
to pick flowers for making leis for her sweetheart. The last of the dance will
represent her excitement in longing for meeting with her sweetheart.
It was said that a wreath of flowers worn represent her love for her sweetheart

Okinawa Eisa Dance

This Okinawa Drum dance is performed at special ceremonial events.
Particularly during annual Obon festivals in mid-August.
Young men and women would entertain villagers with their spectacular dancing
and also as a way of expressing their respect and honor to their ancestors.
