Jim Brock, Vice Chief

Betty Brock, Secretary

Ricky Wallace, Sr.
In 2001, the State of Florida repealed state recognition
laws for American Indian tribes.  This repeal of the
statute has hurt thousands of Floridians involving their
ability to sell their arts as "American Indian Made,"
issues involving burial protection, issues involving
child welfare and cultural protections, etc.  Santa Rosa
County was formed by Cherokees. The Cherokees
has significantly impacted the development and
culture of Florida for over 300 years.

The Florida Tribe of Cherokee Indians tries to fill the
needs caused by this 2001 legislative action.  We
seek to preserve, protect and defend the culture,
language, and peoples of the proud Cherokees of
Florida.  We go to classrooms to teach future
generations the truth about our culture (not what is
seen on television), we go to nursing homes as a form
of outreach to the elderly and sick, and we consult with
governmental, commercial, and nonprofit entities to
better the community as a whole.
